And as the other half of the metro wept for Anberlin’s Farewell gig, the other half danced to the disco punk tunes of Cut/Copy.  SM Aura’s Samsung Hall filled up quite nicely as early as 8pm with giddy fans of the Australian group. Everybody was on full-on party mode – a few people even joked around by stretching just to warm up before the dance-a-thon. It was the first time the group was to perform Manila and Manila’s scenesters wanted to show the dudes of Cut/Copy how we define a good time.

Is This Real Life? David Blaine in Manila

Words by Kix Suarez
Photos by Kris Rocha

As far back as I could remember, I was always fascinated by magic. A magic bit was a requisite for my parties as a kid. It was what separated the good children’s parties from the just okay ones (unless there was red hotdog on sticks with marshmallows, I easily let not having a magic thing slip.) I actually really didn’t care if the magician was a clown or a guy in a top hat as long as he did magic, I was happy. The pulling a bunny out of a hat trick was my all time favorite.

By my early teens, I discovered David Blaine on Cable TV. Looking half stoned or hung over in front of the camera, he did the simplest tricks but drew the most astounding reactions. It was new to me, to see a guy in a black shirt, black denim out on the street just lashing out tricks out of the blue. No lights, glittery and shiny suits, face paint or big explosions. It was just himself, a deck of cards or whatever he could lay his hands on. There was always something unexpected that was going to happen. It was riveting stuff!

Special thanks to Danix Valientes & Top Hat Studio for the photos!

What do you get when you mix an orange sunset, grey colored birds, clinging humidity and Italian inspired architecture? Weirdly enough, a metalcore concert. As these weren’t really the most ideal of combinations, but these worked together to set the stage for one of the most exciting up-and-comers. Setting the stage for the unleashing of Issues. And that fateful afternoon turned out to be beastly.

Kicking off with a stellar performance from Faspitch, these comeback kids showed that they are truly missed by the scene. With a good mix of their past hits and new tracks off their new album – these veterans of Sonic Boom threw one respectable set.

Concert Roundup: Bazooka Rocks III

Words by Kix Suarez

Special thanks to Seth Valenzuela for Day 2 Photos!

I swear, Bazooka Rocks just keeps getting better and better. Hitting my late twenties this year, I never thought I’d still find festivals and rock shows a thing. I always thought that the late twenties were dedicated to dinner and coffee and maybe the occasional quiet drinks at the local watering hole or dive. I guess I was wrong (and let me tell you, wrong never felt so right. Lol.)

From the first row to the very last seat up top with fans that have enjoyed listening to their covers on Youtube.

To everyone who wasn’t there you definitely missed out. To those who still don’t know who they are, well, we’ll be kind enough to give you the low down on these two performers!
