Fearless – Taylor Swift Live in Manila

Words by Manila Concert Scene

When everything fails, one can never go wrong with honest pop music. And such was once again proven by Taylor Swift.

The Red Tour finally had its much-anticipated stopover on Philippine shores last June 6th at the Mall of Asia Arena. It was a full house composed of all types of people – from celebrities, the new fans who picked up her sings on Spinnr, or even the curious…but truly, the Swifties rule the night – truly proving that they are one of the biggest and most loyal fan groups around.

Opening with “State of Grace”, the stage was immediately set for a night of splendor. Her show progressed like a story book guided by her take on love stories, and of course, inspired by the color Red – the color of passion, of war, and of love.  Taylor Swift has steadily honed that penchant to take the words right out of your mouth and actualize those romantic musings into writing; may they be of personal experiences or mere observations. As she herself stated, “You may get your heart broken, but you must never stop believing in love”.

As expected most of her songs hit the mark as the crowd sang their hearts out. May it be her upbeat “22”, to her poignant “Mean”, to the Cornetto sweet “Love Story” or even the dance-music-inspired “I Knew You Were Trouble”. She was consistent, entertaining and endearing. “Manila, I fit in here”, she declares.

Notable as well was the evolution of Taylor’s concert to a full-blown production. From costume changes, dance numbers; the dynamics of the song choices and execution, Taylor created an experience deserving of praise. Conclusively, very smart of her.
