Good Music And Feels

Words by Kix Suarez

Last Thursday, February 20, 2014 was Febfest’s second and final installation featuring the Brooklyn-based duo Buke and Gase, Trevor Powers’ fronted art project Youth Lagoon and American Indie Rock band The National. The Metro tent filled up quite nicely as it was big enough to be called a crowd but intimate enough to hear the artist’s quiet on stage. It was full but there was room to move and comfortably be taken over by the music of the night.

The Story of PASSION

It is difficult to measure how exhilarating it is to finally watch one of the most awaited rock artists perform live, especially when you’ve always thought flying to another country was the only way that could happen.

February 13 marked a first in Manila concert scene history, as Scottish post-rock legend Mogwai and American indie rock sirens Warpaint finally touched base in the Philippines. Crowds came as early as 6:00pm at Metrotent, Ortigas for a chance to meet the bands. By the time the concert doors opened, everyone was eager and ready for the eargasm they have long waited for.

From Miss Rachelle To Miss Saigon

Words by Manila Concert Scene
Photos by Kris Rocha

Rachelle Ann Go will soon be leaving for London for the West End revival of Miss Saigon. Rachelle Ann, or Shin to many, was chosen to play the role of Gigi Van Tranh, the same character portrayed by Ms. Isay Alvarez during its original West End run in 1989. Shin revealed that when she started singing it wasn't even her dream to be part of a big musical. All she wanted and prayed for was to have an album and a concert of her own.

She became famous after winning "Search For a Star" in 2004. Her dream of having an album became a reality as she released her self-titled debut record on the same year.  In 2011, she made her debut in a musical and played the role of Ariel in The Little Mermaid where she won Best Actress award in Broadway World Philippine Awards.  In 2012, another dream came true as she staged her first major solo concert entitled "RAG Rise Against Gravity" which was held at Music Museum. In 2013, she became part of another musical and played the role of Jane Porter in Tarzan. During her 10 years in the industry, she has won and received various awards and recognitions from MTV Pilipinas Music Awards, Awit Awards and Myx Music Awards.

Closeup’s freshest beach party in the city is back with an interesting twist: they’re letting the public call the shots.  Closeup has been inviting everyone to create the party with them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram by letting their fans decide the details of the event starting with the music: electronic dance music or indie?
