Although she came up short of winning the title, Dia didn’t stop pursuing a career in music. Since her stint on the Emmy-winning reality show, Dia has released her first solo album, Red, which made it to number one of the Billboard Top Heatseekers, debuted at number 106 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, and has even gone gold in Thailand.

Phoenix Live in Manila

Words by Kix Suarez
Photos by Kris Rocha

A day before the concert itself, the press were invited to meet Phoenix. The room was giddy, almost like how a first timer would feel at a soiree. It was two things, really. Either they were excited or stricken in disbelief that in a few minutes, they’d be face to face with the band that made ‘Oh my God, you know this song too???’ a staple when trying to hit on an indie dude or dudette and Phoenix comes blasting off the speakers at a club. (Most probably it was this weird mix of both.)

Fresh from the airport with only a few minutes to get settled in to their suite, they come down to be greeted by shrieks, applause, giggles and camera flicks. As soon as they took their seats, the band from Versailles started answering the barrage of questions thrown at them by the press (but first and foremost, fans of the band.)

CONCERT ROUND UP: The 8123 Tour (Manila)

Words by: Manila Concert Scene

Last January 12, Nick Santino (the former A Rocket to The Moon frontman) and The Northern Wind, This Century and The Maine graced Manila with their own brand of pop punk for their last leg of the 8123 Tour at the SM North Edsa Skydome.
The 8123 Tour is the fourth headlining concert tour by the American rock band The Maine, in support of their fourth studio album Forever Halloween which was released last year. The tour currently consisted of 37 shows in North America and The Philippines being the only Asian country in the mix.
The tour, which kicked off at a free hometown show at Tempe Marketplace in Tempe, Arizona was independently put on by The Maine's management team, 81 Twenty Three. The tour line-up consists of headliner The Maine, their management-mates This Century, and fellow music business friends Nick Santino and The Northern Wind. The tour covered 38 dates over 37 North American cities with a special stop at the Philippines.
It was a full house of the young and the young at heart as the Philippine leg was the final celebratory gig before they wrapped up the tour. Everyone was excited to hear old and new songs of the bands and true enough they didn’t let their fans down.

The former A Rocket to the Moon front man, Nick Santino opened the concert alongside his band The Northern Wind threshing out hits and crowd favorites such as Call It All Home, If Only They Knew, Wild & Free, Whole Lotta You, Baby Blue Eyes, If I'm Gonna Fall In Love, Dakota, Give a Damn, Annabelle, Like We Used To and Mr. Right. With just this to start off the night, the crowd could not contain their excitement for what was going to happen next. Clearly, it was just all going to get crazier, wilder and better.
Second to the stage, was the all American pop rock band This Century. The Action Theory signed band members Joel Kanitz, Ryan Gose, Sean Silverman, and Alex Silverman were so pumped to get the crowd moving! By this point, the crowd really goes berserk! The sold out show ‘s crowd screamed and cheered with excitement as the band played some of their hits such as Hopeful Romantic, Tip Toe, Skeletons, To Love and Back, Everywhere Everything, Bleach Blonde, Slow Dance Night and Sound of Fire.
And lastly but surely not the least, The Maine finally takes the stage! The Arizona based band played most of their hits while throwing in a cover or two such as: Love & Drugs, Misery, Inside of You, We All Roll Along, Into Your Arms, Right Girl, Happy, Some Days, Kennedy Curse, My Heroine, These Four Words, Whoever She Is, Identify, Girls Just Want to Have Fun (Cyndi Lauper cover), Count 'Em One, Two, Three, Like We Did (Windows Down) and We'll All Be..

In the middle of their set, a lucky crowd member was brought up on stage by John and was given one of the best gifts a true fan of the band could’ve only dreamed of. The whole crowd joined in wishing the lucky girl a Happy 18th Birthday.

It was truly a wonderful night for everyone. Hopefully, it’s not the last we see of the boy from The Maine, This Century and Nick Santino and The Northern Wind.

Metric is arguably one of the most exciting bands to play in our shores during the tail end of 2013. The Canadian synth-pop group who've made waves in the indie music scene since 1998 proved to be one surprisingly solid band to see live. In fact, the guys showed to all those present in the Samsung Hall that they are indeed worthy of the accolades and praises critics and fans have graciously showered them throughout the years. And yes, collectively, Metric functioned like a well-oiled machine.

American Idol star Jessica Sanchez was recently in the country to promote her new single, “Lead Me Home”. Her latest track showcases her signature soaring vocals accompanied by an inspiring message of hope and home. More than that, the young singer also partnered to donate $0.90 from each single to the Red Cross to support those affected by Typhoon Yolanda in the region.

Jessica shared, “I think anything helps, but especially LEAD ME HOME. The single is $1.29 on iTunes and that $1.29 can turn into a lot of money and it keeps adding up. And all of that goes to the Yolanda victims.”
